Battle of Bentonville, NC (Civil War)

The Battle of Bentonville was the last full-scale action of the Civil War and the largest ever fought in North Carolina. Bentonville was the only major attempt to defeat the Union army as it marched through the Carolinas, led by Gen. William T. Sherman.

Battle of First Manassas/Bull Run (Civil War)

On July 21, 1861, the Union and Confederate armies clashed for the first time in the Civil War, on the fields of Manassas, Virginia, overlooking Bull Run. Heavy fighting swept away any notion of a quick war.

The Battle of Okinawa, April-June 1945, was the largest amphibious assault operation of World War II. Three Marine divisions, four Army divisions and the US Navy fought on land, air & sea for 82 days to secure this key island in the War of the Pacific.
