Purpose of the MARADMIN

To get the word out about the many "virtual" resources available from MCCS Base Libraries

In a nutshell, what does the MARADMIN say?

MARADMIN 214/15 describes "virtual" library resources that are available online from all MCCS base libraries, defines eligibility requirements, and provides instructions on how to establish an account to access these online resources.
I want to read the MARADMIN. Where is it? There's a link to MARADMIN 214/15 at the bottom of this page.
What are "virtual" library resources? "Virtual" resources, also called "digital" or "online" resources, are materials available online: research databases, online education, ebooks, articles, digital magazines, audiobooks, and so forth.

What kinds of "virtual" resources are available?

The Quantico Base Library website links to all these resources! Browse the tabs at the top of this page to find links to databases, digital magazines and more.

See par. 4 of the MARADMIN for more details about:

  • Research Databases
  • Encyclopedias
  • Foreign Language Training
  • Continuing Education Classes
  • EBooks
  • Digital Magazines

Who is eligible?

The digital resources are available Marine Corps-wide, to the following groups (see par. 3):

  • Active duty & reserve Marines, and their immediate family members
  • Retirees, and their immediate family members
  • Marine Corps civilians
How do I get an account?

It depends on where you are located:

  1. Personnel stationed on a base with a MCCS Library:
Visit your Marine Corps Base Library in person to establish an account and get access information (see par. 3 of the MARADMIN for complete instructions).

  2. Personnel not stationed at a Marine base & deployed Marines:
You must request an account from the POC at: usmclibraries@usmc.mil. Provide your name, rank or Marine Corps affiliation, and duty station (see par. 3 of the MARADMIN for complete instructions).

If you already have a library card with the MCB Quantico Base Library, you're good to go! Ask for username/password and access information at the Base Library Circ desk.

What is the "Virtual Library Portal" mentioned in the MARADMIN?

  • The "Virtual Library Portal" is the MCCS Libraries website

  • The Virtual Library Portal is not the same entity as the "Virtual Library Branch" of the Library of the Marine Corps at MCB Quantico.

What else do I need to know to access online resources?

To access online resources, you can:

Why should I use the Quantico Base Library website? Some of the benefits of using the Quantico Base Library website are:

  • We provide the same links as the MCCS site

  • We provide some "local" extras, such as our popular monthly storytime schedule, instructions on how to access the digital goodies mentioned above, links to our library catalog, and links to different online resources
