Collection Overview

Leroy Mack Collection, 1943-1970

This collection is comprised of 10 photographs (9 B&W, 1 color) depicting Leroy Mack (Montford Point Marine 1948-1971) during his 23 year service in the Marine Corps. 7 photographs show Mack at Montford Point during recruit training and as part of the fire department. Mack is often photographed with (first name unknown) Dogle aka “Squirrel.” 1 photograph dated 1951 depicts corporal Mack seated. 1 photograph circa 1954–1955, depicts SSgt Mack at San Diego during Phase I recruiting. Mack is issuing white Marine recruits their first issue uniforms. The reverse of the photograph states “I am telling them what to do and how to do it.” 1 photograph undated depicts Mack at DaNang, Vietnam.
