Featured Item: Joseph Carpenter Collection

Joseph Carpenter Collection, 1943-1946

The Joseph Carpenter Collection consists of documents, photographs, and a yearbook that chronicles Joseph Carpenter's service as a Montford Point Marine. Items include a muster roll for Company "B" at Montford Point, 1943, promotion orders, 1943, letter of endorsement dated 1945, an excerpt of a 1946 publication by Gertrude Carraway entitled "Camp Lejeune Leathernecks" which chronicles the Montford Point Marines, and a Montford Point, Camp Lejeune, Yearbook. The Yearbook is personalized and includes 19 photographs of Carpenter at Montford Point. Photographs include Carpenter at liberty, Marines drilling, the Montford Point Band and a 8x10 photograph of the 61st Platoon, 1943 (Carpenter is in the 3rd row, 4th from the right).
